Delicious biscuits, famous in England but less known here. Their name apparently comes from Garibaldi's visit to England, when they were made in his honour. This version has no eggs or sugar in the dough, but marmalade, raisins and sugar on top provide enough sweetness. I will try another recipe and choose a favourite; these have already disappeared 👍😜.
INGREDIENTS
250 g TYPE 00 FLOUR
50 g SOFTENED BUTTER
100 g MILK
3 g BAKING POWDER
100 g SOAKED RAISINS
VANILLA EXTRACT
1 PINCH OF SALT
KUMQUAT MARMALADE (or your choice)
1 EGG FOR BRUSHING
SUGAR TO FINISH

I soak raisins in hot water for 20 minutes and put flour, butter and baking powder in a bowl.

I add salt and vanilla extract.

I knead by hand, adding milk.

I form a dough block.

I divide into two equal parts.

I roll into two thin rectangles, 30 X 20 cm.

I spread one rectangle with marmalade.

I evenly scatter squeezed, dried raisins over it.

I cover with the second rectangle, matching it exactly.

I roll lightly with a rolling pin.

With a sharp knife, I mark biscuits measuring 7 X 3 cm.

I arrange on a baking-paper-lined tray and brush with a whole egg beaten with a splash of water.

I sprinkle with sugar.

I bake at 180°C for about 12/15 minutes.

Keep under a glass dome or in a tin.
