I put the whole eggs and sugar in a bowl.

I melt the butter.
I sift the flour and baking powder.
I whisk the eggs, adding a pinch of salt and the grated lemon zest.

I mix well and add the lukewarm butter to the eggs.

Then the flour with the baking powder, milk and grappa.

The batter should be creamy but runny.

I peel and slice the apples and add them to the batter.
20131205-155921.jpg
I mix well so that the batter thoroughly coats the apples.

I line the cake tin with baking parchment.

I pour in the mixture and level it.
I bake in a conventional oven at 180°C for about 40 minutes. Test with a skewer: if it comes out dry from the centre, the cake is cooked.

I think this was the first cake I ever made. I was about 12 years old and it was so simple. It is a very old recipe, but a delicious one.
